Cupcake part 2

This past Sunday we had Lizzie's family birthday party - so she got another cupcake! She knew what she was getting this time and was quick to go right for the frosting (sorry Kristy - vanilla again). We had a nice time and Lizzie got some fun gifts to help usher her into her second year (I am already having fun playing with them) :)

I think she is saying "I am out of frosting - please top off my cupcake for me".

Cupcake

In honor of Lizzie's first birthday, I made cupcakes - Lizzie's first sweet! Here is the "before" shot. Thanks to Trudy and Royce for the beautiful cake plate (a wedding present almost 5 years ago).
This picture doesn't quite capture it, but after we lit the cupcake and started signing happy birthday, she got soooo excited! All smiles and giggles! Even though she had no idea what was happening, she seemed to sense that a family sing-along could only mean good things!

Here she is "eating" her cupcake - she is used to getting bite sized pieces of food - she eventually found and ate some frosting and we broke apart the cupcake for her to eat - though she really loved waving the whole thing around.

We are giving her another cupcake this Sunday when we celebrate with more family - I am sure that will be another, messier post (I have already decided to add more frosting to her next cupcake).

Happy Birthday Lizzie!

One year ago today, Lizzie was born!! Last year ago today I was on my way home from visiting Ryan in Old Town (he was helping the Adairs do some roofing) and I got a call on my cell phone that she was going to be born. You can imagine the flurry of excitement and activity that followed this phone call! We were so anxious to get to Louisiana to meet Lizzie and her birth family. What joy Lizzie has brought to us this year! Here she is on her first Easter egg hunt:
The pics are out of order, but last weekend Ryan and Jay participate in the Kenduskeag Canoe race - what a beautiful day they had for the race this year! When they reached the end, Lizzie didn't want to let go of Ryan (you can see the fist tight around his wetsuit in the picture):

On our way home from dinner last weekend, Lizzie took a handful of her blanket and fell right asleep. Ryan was able to take this picture from the front seat. She is such a sweetie!

I will post again after the birthday celebration this weekend (a small family party on Sunday). I hope to get some good baby/cupcake pictures - it will be interesting to see how she likes sugar!

Spring

Here are a few quick shots from the past week. The first is a view of Lizzie that is pretty common (she has crawled over to me, pulled herself to standing with my pants and is saying either come down here to play or pull me up and carry me around - depending on how she feels):
Here is Lizzie playing on the floor - from the looks of things, she is either just about to try to "pet" the dog, or is headed for some vegetable trays that Ryan has just planted. She is a very quick mover these days!

When Lizzie went to bed and our backs were turned, the Spring Bunny stopped by. I think she will be excited by this basket when she wakes up in the morning:

Lizzie's newest achievement is the funny face and noise she makes when you ask her about fish. She has never seen real fish, as far as I know, but has a way of moving her mouth that reminds me of an actual fish in water (though she doesn't pucker her lips as you might imagine - Aunt Char learned that first hand when Lizzie saw her do it and went in thinking it was for a kiss).

April

We are so behind on picture taking this April - I am sure that will change with Easter and Lizzie's birthday just weeks away.
This is a picture taken at my parent's church - we attended a potluck supper there on Friday night to hear a speaker (and to show our support of marriage equality). Lizzie loved the sound of her own echo made from the high ceilings and enjoyed playing with people closer to her own age.

Lizzie is changing so much every day. She keeps adding words to her vocabulary both verbal (the newest ones are "Nana" for banana, Grammy Susie has taught her to say "dee dee dee" when she sees birds, she says "toss" when she wants to play patty cake and she says "ahhh" when she is thirsty) and in sign language (the sign for "more" is popular as well as "light" she is trying to work on "please" and "thank you" as well). She is a little sponge these days!

Also, she is taking a few steps when holding on to her walker with wheels (like a baby stroller for babies to push) and is now crawling over things whenever she can. Needless to say, Mommy and Daddy have our hands full! I promise to be better about taking pictures and posting soon - I have two more weeks of pretty busy work time (lots of travel) and then hope for a little relief!
